Since
Thingyan holidays are coming up next week, I would like to share famous
Thingyan recipes. These recipes are not the easiest to prepare, but if
you can master them you will be in for a delicious treat.
Mon Traditional Thingyan Rice
There are so many ways to make Mon Traditional
Thingyan Rice; some people put wax in the rice or some put wax vapour
into the pot containing water and drip that water on the rice. Although
both ways seem hard to do, they sure taste good.
1. Add rice to boiling water until the rice get
separated. When the rice becomes delicate, drain the rice on the sieve.
Then, put the rice in the refrigerator. (If you already put the wax in
the rice cooking process, you are ready to serve Thingyan rice)
2. Put the pieces of burning charcoal on the plate. Grate some part of candles and put that candle flakes on the charcoal. When the vapour comes out, cover the empty pot over the plate. (so that the vapour smell will stick on the pot)
3. Cover the wet cloth over the empty pot and pour the water in the pot. Now you get the aromatic water.
4. Finally, pour some of the aromatic water on the rice and your Mon Traditional Thingyan Rice is ready.

Now that you have your special Thingyan Rice, you
need some side dishes to eat with it. Two very popular side dishes are
Fried Thingyan dish and Pickled Mango Salad.
Fried Thingyan dish
1. Grate unripe mango. Boil dried fish and grind.
2. Heat the oil in the pan and add turmeric powder, onion and fish paste.
3. Dip the grated mango in oil and add water. When the water is no longer there, add the grinded dried fish, salt and seasoning powder.
4. Stir occasionally until the onions are cooked.
5. Serve with Thingyan Rice.
